Magic Rules

Magic is a disliked ability on Silivist and mages must practice in secrecy therefore making the cost of research and spell components double (for the unusual things, ie. a furry fleece might be common but an ebony rod is fairly strange).

Mages

Mages have the ability to scribe scrolls at first level, assuming that the mage has the spell in his/her spellbook and assuming that it is a spell of a castable level for the mage. Also the mage must have access to a laboratory in order to scribe the scroll.
Next, the mages don't have to memorize a spell twice in order to cast it twice. Once the spell is in the mages head, it doesn't make sense to memorize it again. Instead the mage has spell points. The mage has a number of points equal to the number of spell levels he/she is allowed to cast. For example, At forth level Laural can normally cast 3 first level spells and 2 second, therefore she has 7 magic points to distribute whichever way she chooses (7 first level, 3 second and a first). The mage still needs to sleep an undisturbed 8 hours to recover used or lost spell points. The mage can only have 3 first level spells and 2 second level spells memorized at 4th level, he/she does not have the entire spell book to choose from so you see there is a limit. If the mage wishes to change a spell in his/her memory, then the mage can't use the spell he wants to forget for a week. After seven days of not using the spell the mage can choose the spell he/she wants in its stead and memorize it the following moring(the eighth morning).

Priests

Priests do not have to select their spells in the morning as long as they pray to their God for an hour in the morning and an hour at night....assuming that they don't lose thier favour sometime during the adventure. The God is supposedly watching over his faithful, and when a priest calls upon a spell to be used the God either grants it then and there or denies it. The priest won't be granted any more spells than the regular AD&D system allows him/her to use.
The priest, once a week, may beg his God/Goddess for an extra spell and there is a fifty percent chance that the God will grant it, but even if the God denies his faithful the spell the priest will not be granted any spells the following day. That is his sacrifice for asking more from his God/Goddess than he is worthy of.
